My First Year film at CalArts !!! :)

So the Open Show yesterday was GREAT!!!!

So many AMAZING films turned out as expected to be!!
I didn't get into the producers show this year but being able to finish my first year film and be part of the Open Show is just as gratifying!! Everybody did so great on their films and it makes me feel so glad that I chose to come here to be part of the great legacy learning amongst so many great artists!! The Open show ceremony was great and there were lots of screaming and cheering and it was such a wonderful experience! It was a little bit emotional for me as a first year when the show ended yesterday. It was a line drawn before my eyes reminding me of the end of my first year at CalArts and just thinking of how much I've learned over a year makes me so happy and grateful. We will be welcoming the freshmen next year, and as much as I'll miss being a first year, I also can't wait to step into my second year now!

This might sound a little bit too hasty, but I've thoughts for my second year film already and I'm EXCITED!! My half-baked plan right now is to work on my second year film over the break! I can't wait to see how much I'll learn in my second year and how much farther I'll go!!

Anyway, for now....
As promised a gazillion years ago, here's my first year film at CalArts !!! :D

The Clock Museum

I hope you enjoy the film, and... CONGRATS to all who got into the Producers Show !!!!! :)

Best,
Yon.

1st year film done !!!

After endless amount of work and effort for the past 3 months.... I'm finally done with my first year film here at CalArts !!!!!

I know I have mentioned to post more updates on my film's progress while on the go but I didn't have the time to do plenty of that while in production but I'll post my film over here in my blog after the "Open Show" at CalArts which is happening Saturday the 14th!!

Anyway, here's a screen shot of my film, "The Clock Museum" that I've also submitted for the open show.

Right now I'm gonna go for breakfast with my friend, Nak who's also just submitted his film after crazy amount of work. Nak says "ALOHA" to everyone. He's from Hawaii btw. \m/

Have a GREAT DAY EVERYONE !!!!!
WOOHOOOOOO !!!!!

Bunch of life drawings I did a while ago in Steve's Life Drawing class.

A little update on my film... animation is DONE!!! I'm in the coloring process now and it takes a looooong time, but it should be done by Thursday latest if I keep pushing so that I can meet the compositing deadline by Sat! 5 MORE DAYS TO GO! Wish me luck!!

Paparazzi

Did another illustration!! (click to enlarge)

This was another assignment done for Dan's perspective class. The goal is to draw a staircase and have it move in different directions. I was inspired by the belgium architect, Victor Horta to come up with a slightly whimsical staircase design. If you haven't heard of Victor Horta, he's the father of art nouveau architecture and his designs are absolutely magical! Look him up if you can! I've also recently borrowed a stack of The New Yorker artwork collection from the CalArts library and I found some artists that I really like! Among them are Barney Tobey, Eldon Dedini, Whitney Darrow Jr and many other more! The illustration I just posted above is very much inspired by Barney Tobey and Eldon Dedini's work that I've seen from The New Yorker books!

On the other hand, film is looking good and everything is starting to fall into place now! I'm currently in the cleanup stage and if everything continues to go well, animation should be done by Wednesday and then all that's left to do is compositing!

Have a great day!!

Best,
Yon

Doll Factory

This was done for my perspective class assignment. The goal is to achieve a 2 point perspective drawing with an inclining object with a character in it.

This was so much fun to work on! Have a great day everyone!

Sketch of a friend.

Did a quick little sketch of my friend, Brandon in my sketchbook!

Also, I've finally gotten back on my feet working on my film and things don't seem too bad at all. I managed to pick up pretty quickly where I left off and I'm just glad I had most of my roughs done before portfolio day. Anyway, I'm still in crunch mode and hopefully everything is gonna turn out as planned!
